The Center is open from 7:00-5:30, Monday through Friday, year round. An
annual calendar of center closings is distributed to parents.
Children between the ages of two and six years are eligible to attend.
The Center enrolls children whose parents live and/or work in the community.
Parents affiliated with Rutgers University
are given first priority when openings occur.
Each classroom is supervised by a teacher certified in Early Childhood
Education by the State of New Jersey. Assistant teachers come from varying
backgrounds and are selected for their past experiences and special skills.
Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are prepared on-site daily. Parents
are provided a copy of the menu with their monthly newsletter.
Classes
The Rutgers-Livingston Day Care Center strives to provide a safe, nurturing
environment for young children while their parents pursue educational or
career objectives. Our goals include
- Offering a safe environment, both indoors and out.
- Providing an atmosphere where the foundations of respect for others
are established.
- Providing a nurturing, flexible and calm atmosphere where physical
affection is freely given, self-concept is enhanced, independence and
choices are encouraged and self-discipline is gained in an environment
where the child knows the limits and expectations.
- Encouraging social development through cooperative play.
- Developing love of learning and a positive attitude toward education
- Providing a variety of age- appropriate activities drawn from the
curriculum areas of art, math, science, cooking, music and movement, large
muscle, small motor, social studies, dramatic play, and language arts.
- Establishing respect for the equipment and materials.
- Being supportive of parents by encouraging involvement and open, honest
communication.
